Recruitment!

Recruit-a-friend programs are everywhere with MMOs, but they run aground on a very simple problem: My friends either are already here or don’t want to be here. I’m playing a social game! That’s a thing you do to meet new people! If I already had friends, we’d be playing V Rising together or something, I don’t know.

Yes, I’m exaggerating for effect. Sometimes you have friends or family members who you know would love a game, and so recruiting them makes perfect sense. Heck, sometimes you just really want to get a friend into a game, and so you do your best to recruit them into a game, only feeling a little bit like an Amway salesman.

But how often has that actually worked for you? Have you found yourself frequently getting friends to join you in the games you love, or do you find that they politely level a little bit and then go back to whatever they were doing before? How successful are you in getting friends to join you in your favorite MMO?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
