The Daily Grind: Which MMO most consistently makes you laugh when it wants to?

Cool.

It is probably not a surprise that AdventureQuest 3D is not my main game. I talk about the games that are my main game at any given moment; I am not shy about this. But one thing that I appreciate about the game is that it is very clearly happy to make a setting that is unabashedly a series of weird off-beat jokes, and they are jokes that wind up being actually funny. They aren’t misaimed, and on the rare instance when they fall flat, the delivery is earnest enough that I’m here for the next one.

Most MMOs have at least some sense of humor. The problem, of course, is that many of them are not actually very funny. One poop quest in World of Warcraft was funny, but as soon as it became a manner of two or three in every single expansion, it stopped being funny and started being a case of someone laundering their particular focus. Final Fantasy XIV has some good jokes in many cases, but after the Namazu were hilarious, we get one “short weird race” every expansion, and none of them is nearly as funny but still gets its one joke repeated endlessly. So which MMO most consistently makes you laugh when it wants to?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
