Years ago, when we were playing Torchlight 2 as a group of writers from the site because surely that franchise was going to result in an MMO, Bree drew the short straw, had to roll the Berserker, and named the character ZERKIN for our amusement. This was funny! ZERKIN did not, however, go on to be Bree’s multi-year main and the character she played in every subsequent MMORPG after that point; it was just a quick name she made up for a group session to have fun. I know, however, that she has an arsenal of pun names in City of Heroes that would make even my own love of ridiculous names hang its head in shame.
Now, there’s nothing wrong with giving your characters silly names (assuming you’re not on a roleplaying server, but that’s a different discussion). But personally, I feel bad if I don’t try to give my characters names that are at least adjacent to appropriate human names. (Or Miqo’te, or Ithorian, or Mirialan, whatever.) But what about you? What’s the dumbest character name you’ve ever played seriously?
