Your game has producer’s letters? Good for you, but Overwatch 2 has director’s takes! Which are… kind of the same thing, but they sound all Hollywood-ish. In any case, the latest director’s take for the game is here to talk about “next steps” as the team shooter heads towards Season 14.
The conversation mostly concerns format changes to 6v6 and 5v5, both of which are expected to see some degree of tweaking over the next few months. For 6v6, Overwatch 2 is planning to allow for more diverse role combinations, while 5v5 is testing “two format experiments” to include a more flexible Quick Play: Hacked mode and a special Kingmaker mode. There is even speculation on behalf of the studio to keep 5v5 and 6v6 running permanently.
“These format tests are all about understanding if we can make the core game even stronger. Every day, millions of players jump into the core 5v5 format and the last thing we want is to negatively impact that experience. The exciting thing about these tests is the potential to introduce something that could appeal to another group of players, ones that might have felt uncertain about the move to 5v5 when Overwatch 2 launched,” Blizzard said.
