No, I didn’t mean “solo.” I meant alone. Because there’s a difference. There are many games I play where I have friends, established groups of people, group activities I take part in on a regular basis, and so forth. Sure, I might be playing solo right now in World of Warcraft, but I’m still in contact with people and have a social network. What I’m talking about here is playing alone. No network, no reliable friends, no guild, just all by your lonesome and following your own path.
Obviously, some games make this rather difficult, since you can only be so isolated in a given match of Fortnite. But I was struck by how comfortingly self-sufficient you can feel while playing New World, at least for a little while. So I ask you, which MMO feels the best to play alone, when you might not be the only player in a region or on a stretch of land, but you are isolated just the same?
