Daybreak releases EverQuest progression server details

Daybreak has announced the results of its EverQuest progression server polling. The shard’s name will be Ragefire, and the initial unlocked expansion vote was a close one with “classic only” winning out over “classic, Kunark, and Velious” and “classic and Kunark.”

There are more details in the forum post, including an extensive FAQ that covers everything from experience gain to hell levels to the possibility of items dropping that have been removed from live servers.

Im not of the EQ generation, but a classic EQ2 server would catch my money so fast…  Man I miss starting out as a basic cleric and slowly working your way towards being powerful fury.  Or just having trouble getting lost in nektulos forrest with my buddies running from a giant pack of spiders.  Good memories.

Nice, been looking for a new-old mmo experience. Been dabbling in AO, but seeing this I might have to check EQ out

CthulhuDawg new Freeport is AWFUL.
as long as they were gonna totally redesign it, they could have done away with the maziness, and the horrible livability designs, but NOPE!

just a totally DIFFERENT unlivable random maze to learn.  lol

no group of people would ever design a city like that.

Cramit Wratts CthulhuDawg I tried logging on to EQ99 the other day and man, I forgot how rough 3D games looked back then.

Maybe Daybreak needs to release, (puts on sunglasses), some Everquest Next progression.

Wratts CthulhuDawg It’s extremely close.  The P99 devs actually have old freeport and have recoded a lot of the classic/kunark zones and has made everything the original.  OG Freeport and everything else you can think of.

Never played Everquest and although this is an old game I probably will try it because its nice to see a game offer a server that reverses the dumbing down we see in many mmos these days . (still cant believe how much Funcom dumbed down TSW the one game that I thought would never get that treatment )

Here’s a beautiful quote from the FAQ

It’s important to note that 34% of the people who voted for Level Cap Bias as their first choice also voted for it as their second choice, which places them in the Absor category.

Which essentially means the top 10% of players wanted to control the speed of content/expansion unlocks, regardless of what the rest of the population on the server wanted.

I echo squid’s sentiment that I’m bummed a lot of the systems can’t be reverted to actual classic. I was hoping for a classic Freeport, I still hate new FP. I’m pretty excited though.

Pretty disappointed by the amount of stuff that can’t be reverted to classic. People playing non monk/mage DPS will have to beg for groups.

Q: When will the Ragefire Beta open?
As soon as we can. This week, if possible.
