WRUP: Things to cry about edition

Do you ever want to cry but find yourself unsure about a reason? Like you just have a whole lot of sadness, but you don’t have a reason to cry so you feel like it would be selfish to do so? Well, today we’re going to give you reasons to cry, starting with the fact that you are so entitled that you think you need a reason to cry when you can’t come up with one.

Seriously, how self-indulgent is that? Your life is so great that you have no reason to cry, but you want to just “get it out” or whatever? You’re being absurdly selfish and probably lying to yourself. If you can’t think of a thing to cry about off of the top of your head, you are probably either not actually in need of a good cry and almost certainly treating the pain of other people like some kind of theme park.

Also, we’re going to all have to see Carrie Fisher in The Last Jedi, and that’s going to just be sad on every level. In addition to leaving your weekend plans in the comments of this week’s What Are You Playing, feel free to also leave your own favorite reasons to cry.

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): It’s probably for the best there’s an Easter event in Pokémon Go I’ll try to hit hardcore to burn off chocolate egg and peep calories. The “genki” (energetic) Japanese grandma that also plays in my town has been super hardcore since the event started, so at least I have a benchmark to try to meet. I want to say Overwatch will happen since I love that Blizz has put more of their lore in the game (and I generally am not big on Blizz lore), but the new skins aren’t doing much for me beyond Genji, who I already have a sweet skin for.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I won’t get much time in at all this weekend, but I’m still doing Guild Wars 2 Super Adventure Box, and yesterday I was watching my kid playing Trove and got such an urge to jump in, so most likely I’ll do that next week when my guests are gone.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Still prepping myself for Stormblood in Final Fantasy XIV, still working slowly through my second playthrough in Mass Effect: Andromeda, and still playing Black Desert for Choose My Adventure. I’ve got the vague hankering for something else, but until I can actually identify what it is beyond “something,” I’ll stick with those three.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I’ve recently gotten back into Guild Wars 2 for some casual MMO playing, which is fitting my mood perfectly. So I’ll most likely be leveling up a new Thief and kicking myself for not buying Heart of Thorns when it was on sale.

MJ Guthrie (@MJ_Guthrie, blog): I’m looking over my gaming list and feeling a bit paralyzed. So many things to do, I don’t know how to pick! I think I will spend some time in EverQuest II. There is also a dungeon boss in Conan Exiles that need a whoopin’. I’m also keen on spending a bit more time in the skies of DC Universe Online. Any extra time will be spent with my dinos in ARK: Survival Evolved.

Eliot, are you okay man? That was a pretty messed up into to WRUP.
Here’s the thing. I’ve been playing a lot of Path of Exile and Tree of Savior lately.
What I like about that combo is that they are such totally different games, it offers a beautiful break from each other. When I can’t take the boring ass grind of Tree of Savior any more, I switch to Path of Exile. When I can’t take any more black magic, brutality, blood, and death, I go kill some onions in Tree of Savior. My goal is to use both of them to make it to end game in each.

Mostly MEA. 2/3-3/4 through the game, struggling/enjoying through. Still playing Multiplayer, all Bronze/Basic Packs, but will hopefully be done that stage soon. Had my fill of Human Male Engineer and trying out Human Female Soldier. I likey ‘Turbocharge’ (the new ‘Marksman’).

I jumped back into LOTRO after a long break. Missed playing my Warden, so i’m hoping to actually get a toon past lvl 30 this time. Plus i created a Captain to play with a friend, but the screaming is slowly getting to me.

Everquest: Been having loads of fun despite the dated graphics (I just got into this game. I started on EQ2).
Tree of Savior: I’ve been having a hankering for some ToS
DCUO: Both on XBOX One and PC (Leveling a toon on Xbox and my old main on PC)

This weekend is mostly about Easter – hilltop sunrise service this morning, in-laws at the house today. I spent a chunk of time yesterday working on my private WoW Wrath of the Lich King server. I had updated it, and in the interim someone had updated the spawn timing tables to include a minimum and maximum table instead of just a spawn time, and initialized the max table incorrectly, so the server wouldn’t even start. I rebuilt the table, setting all the max spawn times to min spawn times + 120 secs, and everything is up and running now. Happy Easter everyone!

Edited to fix a typo (and probably add a few new ones).

Started playing Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade, which I’m enjoying quite a bit despite it including some things that will typically keep me from enjoying PvP in a game. It certainly doesn’t seem to deserve all the negative reviews that it has received, which I can only assume are a result of the game not being the product that the original developers had promised and less to do with the actual game as it is.

Still dedicated to Path’s league. I’m at lvl 88 with 20 league achievements so I’ll probably be able to pick up the second item and some other junk.

I finished installing a nice border on my driveway with pink and white begonias with Joseph’s coat at the front for a pop of color. Maybe I’ll put in a few pics tomorrow.

I recently installed irrigation at my house, am personally building a patio with an antique syrup kettle/oyster pit as a centerpiece and some other junk. I have multiple trays of seedlings I ache over every day. My home is hitting a renaissance after years of struggle and I am absolutely obsessed with it. I check the plants around my home a few times a day. Plants are taking over video games as my obsession in very quick manner.

People around the neighborhood are starting to offer me paying jobs so I’ll probably transition to it as a full time paying gig soon. Level up!

Playing Cosmic Star Heroine.
It’s as if Chrono Trigger and Phantasy Star never died and had a baby RPG instead.

It’s completely 90′, with nice 2D sprites and 2D cut scenes, an excellent soundtrack (no chiptune here, there are even vocal tracks which is kinda weird), a simple and fun space adventure with old school characters without going for full stupid.

But it really shines in combat. Turn based, but with no time wasted: you get fully healed after each battle, can instantly restart any lost one, you can see and avoid monsters… or just click a button to jump back into one if you want to grind (but there’s no need to).
This lets the whole gameplay shows its depth, with skills, items and “magic” (“programs” that you get accessto by equipping gear) usable only once per battle, until you defend and recharge your character skills (and the rest more rarely with some skill combos too). Everything is refilled for the next fight, no consumables needed.
No spamming here, you have to think of the right moment to use your skills, preferably when in hyper mode (very Final Fantasy Limit Break-ish, but on a turn timer instead… again, that can be modified in battle), when to recharge your abilities without exposing your whole team… and temporary buffs and debuffs are super important. They work on bosses! Even if they’re resistant to, say, poison, just use it multiple times to break the “poison bar” and you’ll benefit from constant damage the entire battle. That’s a game changer for that kind of RPG.

I expected a cool little indie RPG like the other Zeboyd games, instead I found a game that can easily compete with the best of the best; and plain exceeds 95% of turn based RPGs combat.

There is also a dungeon boss in Conan Exiles that need a whoopin’.

.
Make sure to murder everyone else in the group as soon as the boss is down so you don’t have to share the loot.
