Elite Dangerous promises bug-squashing patch by early May

Update: The devs have shifted the ETA to April 25th; we’ve updated below.

While Elite Dangerous’ community should be celebrating over the addition of player-created avatars and multi-crew ships with Horizons Update 2.3, instead they’re dealing with one of the buggiest updates to date for the space sim. Even following a rollback last week of the background sim data that manages political factions, there are still numerous issues that have yet to be resolved.

The good news is that there’s a patch coming to take care of much of this. The bad news is that players are going to have to wait until next month to see fixes for the login bugs, stability issues, weird errors, and frame rate drops.

“We’ve seen your feedback with regards to a number of bugs in the latest update,” Frontier reported on the forums, “and the development team have been busy working on a release that focuses on fixing a large number of the common complaints. The release is currently scheduled for early May.”

Update: As of this afternoon, Frontier thinks next week is likely for this patch, so hooray!

“We’re making good progress, so we’re aiming for this update to go live for PC and Mac players on Tuesday (25th), earlier than previously stated. As always, we won’t know for certain that the update will be ready on Tuesday but the docking request has been made and we’re making our way to the slot! If the update does push past that point, your patience and understanding would be greatly appreciated. There are some separate issues that apply to Xbox Commanders only. We will put this update out as soon as we can too – we understand the frustration caused but rest assured that the developers are working extremely hard to bring these fixes in as soon as possible. We’ll keep you informed on an exact ETA as soon as we know more, but for the moment it looks like it will be a couple of weeks. Once again, we really appreciate all of your feedback and continued support.”

Thanks BBB for the tip!

So here’s a game I own a copy of, and really want to like, but is it just me, or is it hard as hell to control the ship? Why’d they make it like a flight simulator? Probably just me. If anyone has any navigation tips let me know.

Is there a server I should join in particular?

There are no actual server choices in the traditional mmo sense. Your choices are:

Open: Potentially meet other players and all that entails for good or ill.
Solo: Same as open but without other players.
Private Group: Invite only but essentially same as open but with player enforced expectations on how you interact with others. For example co-op play etc

There are many things I miss about ED. Give me base-building and landing on Earthlike worlds and all is forgiven.

There is no denying that it is a bit crap that we have to wait a bit longer than most of us would like, including the devs I expect. Still I would rather wait than rush something out and make the situation worse.

I have been playing daily since the patch had a few issue but am still playing /shrugs

Also the dev team are pushing out some server side fixes to multicrew in the “next few working days” to make it a little more profitable and fairer to all the participants along with a further change to help prevent multicrew griefing coming a little later.

I really haven’t had any issues. Most of the problems are in Open Play, where I never am, and also concerning more multiplayer functions. This is really a big pile of crap for open-players but far less so for the majority of players in solo.

Hell, the exploration payouts alone have me giddy about 2.3, and I have yet to see a single bug being the explorer I am.

The biggest thing I have come across personally is the AMFU repair bug on the discovery scanner which stops you turning the scanner back on after the repair is complete. Bit of an issue if you have a passenger mission with 10 mil payout that needs you to scan something.

After a bit of swearing I got my calm head back and did some research. Found out that logging out to the desktop and back in again re-enables the scanner. So mission saved and much relief was had by me :-)

There are some folks on the Xbox One version who are justifiably fed up as they haven’t been able to log in and I expect that announcement didn’t go over so well with them. For those folks I would consider some compensation of some sort would be justified even if it is just a token gesture like some store skins or something.

Oooh, yeah! I read about that early on and don’t tend to dive face first into stars so I was fine. But you’re right there when you end up halfway to SagA* and realize your scanners are fried.

I haven’t seen this workaround yet. Maybe throw it on the reddit sub? It would be SUPER appreciated!

Are you considering joining the event on the 29th? I kind of want to bring my 600k insurance-payout Cobra and see what I can do to help.

The event looks interesting and I am going to keep an eye on it is the best I can offer.

My problem is that you will need to be in open to take part with limited instance access, my crappy internet and lots of people (supposedly) going to be in the same space at the same time. For my internet that will probably be more than it can cope with.

Will be interested to hear how you get on though if you decide to go take a look :-)

I’m so far from being a combat pilot. Mostly Harmless, still, years into play. All that. I carry my towel with pride.

If anything I might go for engineered FSD spinup reduction and play it like I’m keeping tabs for Fed/Corp. I think you’re Empire, if I recall, so that gets even more complex :p

I’ve been reading Reclamation recently, and should easily be able to power through and finish by Friday. Salomé is so awesome and I don’t even know what to think!
