WRUP: It’s time to figure out if we’re wanted by the police and why edition

All right, everyone, settle down, you’re probably wondering why I called this meeting. Let me get right down to it: Last weekend was a lot of fun, but since then, there are some disturbing indications that we may all be wanted by the police for a variety of crimes. I don’t want to point fingers, but I think it’s time to figure out if we’re wanted by the police, and if so, why.

Like, seriously, I woke up with a lot of blood on my sheets. But that could actually mean lots of things. And I didn’t write myself a note about what I did, but Liam remembered to. It’s just that Liam’s note reads “make seven bob right proper quick in Londonderrydo” and Liam is, I must remind you, from Wisconsin. He doesn’t even know how much money seven bob is. I don’t know how much money that is. Is it even money?

Oh, those are sirens outside. Look, we’ve got to sort this out quickly before the police arrive, if for no other reason than it would be helpful to know whether we should confess, pay a fine, or book it. Let us know what you’re doing this weekend down in What Are You Playing, maybe we can work backwards from that.

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Recovering from a Chevy Chase-esque family function. I’m hoping for some Pokemon Go time and maybe Final Fantasy XIV, but I’m not sure if it’ll happen

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): Guild Wars 2 for sure; we’re trioing in Path of Fire and having absurd fun. Maybe something else will grab me too. I keep thinking about ARK: Survival Evolved for some reason.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Nothing too ornate, even though I’ve got a rather wide-open weekend schedule; mostly I’ll be focusing on FFXIV and World of Warcraft per usual, as well as likely getting to a proper start in Project Gorgon.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I want to get through an interesting “walking simulator” called Tacoma, since I actually play the Steam games that I buy when they’re on sale. Some Dungeons & Dragons Online would be good, and I’m going to keep up with my money generation efforts in World of Warcraft. It’d be pretty awesome if I could buy the expansion by just playing the game!

Pierre, patron: Hello MOP readers, I’m Pierre and I’m an addict: I’m playing World of Tanks again. I tried to resist its call but wasn’t strong enough. Even worse, I’m diluting it with some PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds this weekend. Hard drugs… sigh! I’m definitely a PvPer these days. Enjoy your weekend MOP readers and beware if you plan on riding your tank to the park this weekend; kind advice, better find another occupation, because I’m merciless. Cheers!

Your turn!

Playing some GTAO with my main Monster Hunter buddy to pass the time until MHW comes out. I wasn’t pressuring him in the slightest, but he broke down and pre-ordered the PS4 version despite being part of the PCMR crowd.

Besides that, I’m almost finished with LA Noire. Once I beat that, it’ll be back to leveling up and hunting down carbon crystal on AC: Origins before tackling what seems to be the final story quest. And there will be some Bravely Default in there, too. Leveling Monk on everyone until they get Inner Alchemy.

Unfortunately, holding off on reactivating my FFXIV account. With MHW just over the horizon, I have some games I want to clear off my backlog, and then I won’t be giving much attention to anything else for a long while once MHW does release. The exception might be the PS4 remaster of Shadow of the Colossus, and then Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology later that same month.

After avoiding it since release because i absolutely hated the original game that much i finally picked up The Witcher III and an hour in doing the ‘Devil in the Well’ quest really sold me purely on going around and doing a little detective work instead of being some ‘lets kill the fucker’ hero like someone out a modern comic book or something. Finally get what the gushing is about and hopefully it can tide me over till Monhun World.

Also braved the vampiric clerks of games workshop for the first time in years and picked up a starter box for the age of sigmar undead. Looks like a hard reboot to try and draw in younger tabletop crowds that prefer skirmish games but i have that hankering for a minatures game i get like every 5 or 6 years again.

-oh and levelling my crafters to 70 in FFXIV, one more 60-70 and i’m done and god i know so many folks who don’t know about the aetherial reduction system in this game and i cannot imagine sitting on a wealth of crystals for crafting without it.

I’m happy to read that somebody else out there hated the original Witcher. I didn’t make it past the tutorial. Worst combat system ever!

Nothing /sobs

Working on weekends, free time is for shopping because winter sales are a thing and my housemate and me for once got matching shifts so evenings are to binge-watch…whatever.

Of course there’s always time for The Sims at 4am but that’s part of house chores, nothing to do with playing!

Joined Rafael’s modest (but lively) and informal EpicMOPs clan in Blade & Soul, and have been having a good go of it since coming back after about a year away. Leveling my Gunslinger (mid-20’s now), and certainly horrified Uta when we randomly crossed paths battling the Pot Dogs boss Wu Fo.

Word is the Pink Pigtails don’t favour such healthy proportions of the female characters, and mine usually have the legs that might represent a LOT of sprinting and leaping about so inherent in the game’s mechanics. ;)

I gotta feeling you’re not going to let that one go. O.o

Nice! Good to hear you ran into Uta. She is alt friendly and travels everywhere.

I’m glad you are enjoying it.

Bored to tears so I made a smuggler in SWTOR. The story is cute (can you say that about a story where someone has a death bounty on her head?) and is only hampered by the repetitive mission style of SWTOR. Also I discovered (remembered?) as a preferred player I can only post in general chat once every 15 minutes. Lovely. Would play Splatoon with the grand kid but he’s on punishment this weekend…no devices :(

My main is a Smuggler (Gunslinger subclass) and I certainly had fun with him when there was still content to play :-) Seriously, the original story questline is decent, for sure.

As for the preferred player crap — it’s best not to get me started. :-) The worst false “free-to-play” scheme I’ve ever seen.

They’re so dead-set against free-to-players having access to anything useful, they should’ve just made it all a straight-up subscription-only game and called it done.

But that would’ve been … too sensible? :-)

In any event, I hope you enjoy your smuggler and her adventures!

I am definitely enjoying her and I get to be sassy and not so nice sometimes. Just finished the part on Tatooine where the Jedi Knight woman is advising me to go straight and get out of crime. That was pretty funny.

“book it.” LOL. Just to clarify for those who weren’t around in the 70s. That means, run for it.

So, what do you guys think? Do you think I will be playing anything other than Blade and Soul this weekend? Heh. Nope! It still has it’s hooks on me. And with the second year anniversary stuff coming next Wednesday, well… you know where I will be.

Why? Well, I like hanging out with Foul Mouthed Granny, the best NPC ever. No, I’m serious. The best NPC ever created! Don’t think so? Here, take a look.

And if you heard “Book’em, Danno” in the 70’s, you didn’t run fast enough.

Quite right. And if you heard “Booke’m” and that’s it, you were watching Starky and Hutch.

I’d love to hear what Justin thought about Tacoma. I played it through in one sitting. I liked it, but not as much as Fullbright’s earlier game, Gone Home.

For me, I’m putting some time into a new troll mage alt on my private World of Warcraft classic server. Soooo … does anybody know where Mankirk’s wife is?

I know exactly where Mankirk’s wife is – I must have sent a hundred players there after constantly being asked in Barrens Chat! I did this quest on my server this morning, so I figured I’d throw in a comment about it for old time’s sake. It was pretty much its own meme. Thanks for replying though!

For whatever it’s worth, I loved Tacoma. It’s certainly short for the price, but the quality was appreciated.

I’d recommend it to anyone who likes the idea of a purely investigative game — but I’d probably suggest they buy it on a Steam sale, if they’re bothered by the fact that it can typically be finished in six hours or less.

My take, anyway. Glad you had fun, zoward!

I’ve been away for a while, first with the flu (that scuttled all our Christmas plans), then just with catching up with everything. But in that time I played and finished Watch_Dogs 2 (excellent, possibly even better than GTA 5) and started and have almost finished Slime Rancher. Both are highly recommended.

Also, I’m still regularly playing Overwatch. I’ve reached a silver portrait now. I almost have my first silver star, in fact. Weekly group is playing Warframe.

I decided to have a New Year’s resolution this week: to recommit myself to rationality, civility and positivity in my online interactions. I know it’s not really an earth shattering announcement, but after watching my current favorite game getting continuously bashed for the last month; and re-plugging myself into social media trying to get a modest Twitch stream started up; it’s become abundantly apparent to me that we all need to take a minute before hitting that send button, and asking ourselves if this is the best version of ourselves. I’m trying to stop and ask: does this inquire, inform, or entertain; not preach, or belittle; and would I say this, like this, to someone if they were standing right in front of me? If the answer is “no” I don’t post it. It might not be much, but it’s my way of trying to contribute to a more civilized world.

Okay, game stuff.

Still loving my time with Destiny 2. I’m pretty stoked about the adjustments announced this week. There’s nothing shocking there, but nothing bad there either, so I’m pleased. And as one of the great poets of our time once said “haters gonna hate, hate, hate” so I’m just trying to ignore the venomous bile that’s being spewed the game’s way, and enjoy what I’m enjoying.

Also, as stated earlier, I’ve been trying to get started streaming on Twitch with Life Is Strange: Before the Storm this week as well. As one might expect the initial results are humbling: I’ve picked up one follower. So, I’m not an overnight Internet sensation: I’ll just keep plugging away at it. If you’re interested in checking it out, my schedule and other stuff are on my channel page: https://www.twitch.tv/wsrb

I’ve never done the Twitch thing, Sray, but I’ll see if flu-boy can pull enough focus to peek in.

I still intend to explain my opinions on Life Is Strange to you in more detail — not because I’m trying to convince you of anything, only because I figure you deserve the courtesy of knowing my mind, and how I drew the conclusions I did.

You are, of course, entirely entitled to your own opinions, and I would have it no other way.

Still, I gotta feel better before anything much happens. I promise I’m working on that!

Be well, pal,

Cheers,

Hey, what did I tell you last week about being sick? I said stop being sick and just be awesome instead! And then you just go and do the opposite of what I told you! It’s like you’re trying to piss me off.

Hehe…

Seriously though, get better soon: being sick sucks (which is why you should just be awesome instead).

And don’t worry about rushing off to check out my black hole of charisma… er, I mean my Twitch stream… I’m taking it slow going through the games. Just sticking to two hours a session on stream nights, so it’s going to take another week before I even get into the middle of the original Life Is Strange. Made the mistake of trying to plow through an episode per night of the prequel, which turns out to be almost 4 hours per episode, and now I’m sticking to a fairly strict “two hours, with an occasional extra fifteen minutes” policy.

Great pic. And a good resolution too.

Reader

Thanks. I realized that taking pics at 21:9/4k has been rough on other people’s screens even when shrinking them down because I’ve just been shrinking by percentages without really knowing whether or not that fits. I found an online aspect ratio calculator that let me resize to what I know will work on most people’s screens.

Reader
rafael12104

What is the size you managed on this pic? Size is a definite consideration.

I cropped the edges a bit to get a bit closer to 4:3 so it’s at 738×640 right now.

That looks awesome. Whenever I see someone who can actually draw, it makes me a little ashamed of my lack of patience when I attempted to learn to draw many, many, many moons ago.

And now I’m going to shame corner.

Seriously though, been loving your stuff here the last few weeks. Keep it up.

Reader
Bruno Brito

I think what i can say to someone who wants to draw quickly is to honestly study. But it kinda requires fortitude. That even i don’t have. I hate anatomy with a passion.

That being said, having concepts you want to bring life to, helps a lot. I pretty much live and die making characters and concepts, so drawing is like second nature to me nowadays, because i’m always thinking of stuff like stories and such. Literally.

For now, the two concepts i’m having in mind is pretty much these: A gnome cleric, with warrior training, who dabbles in military prowess and shadowmagic, like a blackguard or shadowknight, and a dwarf flagellant, who uses two morning stars to bleed and bruise his enemies.
