Second Life celebrates 21 years of operation with town halls, music events, and exhibitor showcase

While techbros on some serious stuff dream about a metaverse (or more specifically how to turn it into a monetizable hellscape), Second Life has arguably been doing the metaverse thing – as in an alternate, wide-reaching sandbox universe one can peruse – for 21 years now. That’s obviously a milestone worth celebrating, and that’s just what’s happening over the next several weeks.

The SL21B event features multiple activities to mark the occasion, including music events and performances, a returning shop and hop event featuring 480 different merchants, an exhibitor showcase that spans 310 exhibits across 20 different regions, and several different town halls with developers from Linden Labs occurring across this week, with the first starting on June 25th. There will also be a community roundtable on July 1st for fans to offer thoughts and ideas to the game’s top executives.

There’s enough going on that there are a couple of Google Calendars that outline what’s happening and when, so if you’re deep within the world of Second Life, you’re probably best served planning your in-game time accordingly.
