BioWare cancels SWTOR Operation Victory speed runs

Those of you looking forward to that Star Wars: The Old Republic speed-run e-sports thing are out of luck, at least for now. BioWare community manager Eric Musco says that the firm is “canceling its ESL Operation Victory competition,” and he cites problems with the Coratanni encounter as the primary issue.

“We spent a lot of time this week testing bug fixes to see how viable the fixed version would be in a speed running environment,” Musco explained. “We have applied improvements to the Coratanni encounter as of tomorrow’s patch but there are still situations that could impact players focused on a timed run.”

For a PUG, I will agree that it is too intensive. For a guild of competent players, it’s just fine. PUGs can barely handle WoW’s LFR difficulty level, which is about as toned down as it gets. If Bioware intends for the operation finder to actually get some use, they might want to take another pass at story mode. But then again, they’ve got a pretty terrible track record of making raiding accessible to non-raiders.

Cortanni was actually the first thing I thought of when they announced this. My raid team hasn’t seen her bug in a few weeks now but I heard the bugs were still around. It’s a shame they couldn’t get it worked out in time.
Also, I have to agree that the Underlurker is overtuned which why less people have cleared it. The whole rest of the operation is laughably easy compared to Underlurker.

I want to say this comes as a surprise.  But then again, I want to say flying unicorns exists and we can travel back in time to stop this game from being screwed up.

Karl_Hungus Estranged Valkyriez Actually, I found that the issue with Underlurker when not bugged wasn’t the cross mechanics. In fact, I think the cross mechanic is just fine for storymode. The issue is the add mechanics, which output too much damage for storymode, and the enrage timer is way too short for storymode.
With the gear you have going into Temple of Sacrifice the first time, you cannot make any mistakes on DPS to get past Underlurker. For a raid that is intended for a PUG, it is far too healing intensive and the enrage timer is too short.

If you really think the difference between a top tier raider in WoW versus SWTOR is macros and add-on’s, then you probably were never a top tier raider in either game. My level of experience is actually wasted in SWTOR ops. Much of it is basic stuff like, gee.. don’t stand in the bad circles, and yet people have trouble with that. Majority of the time I’ve cursed at this game’s raid mechanics, it’s been at incompetent design coupled with the terrible engine. Case in point, the entire reason they scrapped their PvE e-sports event. Here we are, months after release and some fights are crippled with bugs. And we wonder why it takes them over a year to release a new tier of raid environments.
