While developers are, by virtue of the job, very creative folks, there are only so many types of environments that seem to crop up in MMOs (particularly fantasy titles). Yes, sooner or later you’re going to traipse through the Earthquake Zone, the Lava Zone, the Swamp Zone, and the Green Hills Zone. Wait, that last one might be Sonic the Hedgehog. Nevermind.
Anyway, in my talks with players over the years, I’ve heard passionate defenses and venomous epithets levied against various biomes. One player’s favorite environment might be the next one’s most hated part of the game. For the record, I’m always attracted most to lush, idyllic woods while repulsed the greatest by over-busy jungle zones.
