Vin Diesel is officially part of the development team for ARK 2 as President of Creative Convergence

Just in case you happened to miss it during our coverage of the Game Awards, a sequel to survival sandbox ARK: Survival Evolved as well as an animated series are both happening, and both of these projects will be featuring actor Vin Diesel. That would normally be the end of the story, except Studio Wildcard has further announced that Diesel will effectively be joining the game’s development as President of Creative Convergence, where he will act as an executive producer.

If this sounds like a made-up title in order to appease an actor’s ego, Studio Wildcard CEO Doug Kennedy points out in a statement that Diesel “is providing direct feedback to the development process.” Diesel is also reportedly a big fan of ARK and has “thousands of hours” logged in to the game.

As for Diesel’s in-universe persona, players can look forward to interacting with protagonist Santiago in-game as well as watching him as part of the cast of characters in the animated series, both of which are due to arrive at some point in 2022.

Hmmm. After those videos, I think I will stay even farther away from this game.

Diesel is fantastic, I like to hear he’s helping them out in some small way. The guy is a fellow geek and life-long gamer. Had is own game studio for a while, plays D&D, etc. His name brand aside, he’s a gamer at heart and will hopefully be able to give them feedback as a gamer.

When i said to end the age of rockstar developers, i didn’t mean to go full rockstar and no developers.

Well, we see where all the money went that they made from the first game. It sure as hell didnt go back into the game. Such a poorly coded and optimized attempt at using the unreal engine.

First it was Ark… then Atlas (i know, not exactly the same company), now its Ark 2. I hope players by now know not to trusts ANY trailer this company puts out

All I remember from the Ark 2 trailer, when I first saw it, was that the animation looked a little bit stilted and stiff. Vin’s movements felt more like an action figure to me. Didn’t help it was juxtaposed with that animated trailer

Animated series seems to largely cover what is already there in the Explorer’s Notes. For those who don’t know the Explorer’s notes follow the story of Helena’s time on The Island, Scorched Earth, Aberration and finally comes to a close with the Extinction map.

Vin Diesel…man I dunno. Maybe they’re aiming for something more like Conan Exiles with ARK 2 more focused on having story elements be a bit more prominent and there being more cooperative PvE tasks/exploring? The issue with that is Exiles and ARK are two vastly different games. ARK is incredibly grindy when played legitimately where as Exiles once you hit level cap it all flattens out and becomes pretty easy (especially once you get a T4 fighter thrall).

We’ll see, but “President of…” as a title is always come to come off as some silly made up title. There’s one President at a company, any others just look weird.

That trailer was astoundingly bad. With Vin Diesel’s involvement in this and the recent Fast & Furious game he really seems to be trying to undo all the good will in gaming he earned with the Chronicles of Riddick game.

Ark2?

Why should I invest my gaming time and money into a code base that by the time it starts to mature is going to be put into maintenance mode in favor of selling another sequel?

What are you talking about? The game has been out for 5 years and has been “supported” during this time, although that is questionable, it has still had at least yearly bug fixes, new features and new maps. It’s time to move on from the pre-2014 UE4 custom code that caused so many issues to begin with. The sequel could right a lot of wrongs or it could mess things up more. It’s still time.
