The Daily Grind: Has any MMO company reached the point where you’ll never give it money again?

And we will call it... this land!

Oh, Blizzard. You have some gigantic damn problems right now, and let’s face it, I am definitely not going to give you money at the moment. Frankly, you’re going to have to work overtime to convince me that giving you money for your next expansion is even a worthwhile idea at face value. But having said that… I also think it’s worth noting that Blizzard has not reached the point of absolutely no return. I’m not willing to give the company money right now, but I haven’t sworn an oath to never give it money.

By contrast, the multi-headed trash hydra that currently is Legends of Aria’s ownership is never getting a cent from me under any circumstances. Absolutely never. They could promise that the NFT stuff didn’t work out and the developers were scrubbing any mention of it from promotional material and I still wouldn’t give them any money. Similarly, there’s no way that I’m giving anyone associated with Richard Garriott my cash.

What about you? Has any MMO company reached the point that you’ll never pay for what it’s offering, no matter what happens or how good the game looks? Not when you’re just holding back now or based on content, but where you are never going to pay for the company’s products under any circumstances?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
