Some MMOs are really good about refining and updating systems introduced early in the game’s lifespan, and while they may not be perfect, you can expect 90% of the game’s systems to be as present and relevant on expansion three or four or seven as they were when introduced. Some MMOs, meanwhile, have more systems thrown away than some other MMOs get over the course of their entire lifetimes. But no matter what MMO you choose, there are always a few systems that just got… quietly abandoned. They didn’t work out and either got patched away or just remain there without expansion or relevance.

And odds are good you like one of those systems.

That’s not to say that you necessarily think that the system should have stuck around forever or that it was good without any further improvement; sometimes you recognize why a system didn’t work even as you enjoy it. But that also doesn’t mean you don’t still like the system just the same. So what’s your favorite abandoned MMO system? What system to you still like even if the developers have indicated they’re never coming back to it?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
