When I divide up the activities of my life, I find that they generally fall into three categories: the ones that I do to make money, the ones I do for fun & family, and… chores. You know, stuff that needs to get done and may be beneficial but aren’t especially fun to do in and of themselves.
You’d think that video games would be exempt from allowing the influence of chores, but no, there are plenty all over the place. Even if the developers didn’t lure us into a routine of menial tasks, we’d probably come up with a bunch of chores on our own. Some of the chores that I’ve gotten sucked into doing are daily quest for reputation increases, reposting auction items, and even logging in (and then immediately out) of multiple MMOs I wasn’t even playing to get the free daily rewards.
What chores do you find yourself doing in MMOs — now or in the past — and why did you keep on doing them? Did you find that these tasks ended up taking too much time?
