The Daily Grind: How do you balance new single-player games with your MMO time?

Hush up.

This may come as a surprise, but the reason I play Final Fantasy XIV isn’t that it’s the only game in the series that I like. There are a lot of good titles in the series, and it’s for that reason that I’m looking forward to diving into Final Fantasy XVI today. But that doesn’t mean that I’m not going to play FFXIV at all; it just means that I’ll spend less time playing it. That time will remain nonzero, even as I’m making my way through the entirety of the newer game.

My approach is a common one, I believe, but not entirely a universal one. I know there are people who have a certain amount of time allocated to MMOs on a nightly basis even if there’s a new game coming out; the MMO time does not change. Other people have a fixed amount of time spent on video game of any kind, and if there’s a new single-player game, that means less time (or none) in online games. What about you? How do you balance new single-player games with your MMO time?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
