It won’t be deeply satisfying for everyone, but regardless of the MMO, I find something deeply satisfying about just gathering. Once I establish a loop of where to get resources, I just… go in that loop, gather resources, repeat. Oh, sure, I might look for the best places to do so, but the core loop remains. It’s my comfort food within an MMO, and one that doesn’t allow me to just calmly gather is going to have an uphill grind for being a real main game for me just because that relaxes me.
We all have comfort games, but I personally think that as often as not that is because those games offer the best comfort food in terms of content. For some people, leveling in repetitive content is the comfort food of choice. Others like just fishing, or just clearing points on maps, or whatever. So what’s your MMO comfort food?
