“I do not understand how Ninja is supposed to be played,” he said, “and at this point I have given up on understanding it.” This was, in fact, a defensible statement; Ninja in Final Fantasy XIV is a complicated job with a whole lot of messy parts that are not immediately obvious when you start playing the job. It was less defensible when it was ostensibly his main job that he wanted to bring along for all content, but the core idea was understandable.
We all have certain classes or mechanics or systems that just do not make sense to us in MMOs. I know that there is definitely an “ideal” way to set up my Enhancement sets in City of Heroes, but I have long ago decided that I am not going to worry too much about that; I am going to do the best I can and accept that I may actually be picking a couple things that are sub-optimal despite my best efforts. The time when I would devote myself to understanding the ideal way to play Arcane Mage in World of Warcraft has passed, and I now pick options that are not the best but are more predictable. So are there MMO systems you long ago gave up on understanding and now just engage with well enough to get by?
