The Daily Grind: Do you avoid MMO hype until it launches for real?

This had better not have changed.

The cancellation of Blue Protocol, while not unforeseen, still stings. It seemed to have potential and was a pretty hefty new MMO in a time when we’re getting so few of them. Now, we have to scratch another “could’ve been” off the list of our hopes and dreams.

Unless, of course, you placed no expectations upon this title because you have a wait-and-see philosophy to upcoming games. There’s always that choice, isn’t there? You can get swept up in the excitement and hype of an upcoming game, or you can choose to largely ignore it or keep your expectations tamped way down until the day when and if it releases.

How do you handle upcoming MMO projects? Do you tend to devour news about them and get emotionally invested in them, or do you tend to keep your distance and avoid that hype until it actually arrives?
