There was a surprise development update for several Lord of the Rings Online projects that the game’s lead designer delivered in the forums on Wednesday. Orion addressed player questions about several different initiatives for the MMO, saying that, “the issue always comes down to one of resources and the availability of those resources against the expectations of players and company.”

Orion announced that the kinship revamp, which was announced in the 2024 roadmap earlier this year, is being delayed for more work: “The kinship revamp is going to require more time than we expected so it is not going to be in the U42 release. Along the way, we found some pitfalls we want to avoid and some ideas from you, the players, which are really good and we feel need to be included in the revision and we want to get this right.”

Other projects addressed as still in the works is a 4K resolution option, character transfers from legacy servers, multi-factor authentication, a new launcher, Elf avatar improvements, and a crafting revamp. He said that the team is “[preparing] for the new year ahead and [getting] onto a more open and obvious cadence for all you.”
