The Daily Grind: What’s the oldest MMORPG zone that you think looks visually stunning even today?

I’m really glad that Final Fantasy XIV’s first crossover raid with Final Fantasy XI will include an area based off of Tu’Lia, also known as “Sky” among fans, because it’s a really stunning zone with a visual style that’s striking even in the original game. You could say that it’s nostalgia talking, but I didn’t do much in the zone back during my time with the game; I just still think that it looks striking and gorgeous despite being a couple of decades old at this point.

While every MMORPG ages differently, some doing better than others, I think it can be easy to overlook the beauty of some older zones. There are vanilla World of Warcraft zones that still possess an amazing look and feel, districts in City of Heroes that look unique even now, and so forth. So what’s the oldest MMORPG zone that you think looks visually stunning even today? Even without any fancy enhancements of newer areas in long-running games, what still is an absolutely gorgeous zone regardless of the march of time and technology?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
