It looks like the novel coronavirus has once again successfully put the kibosh on another major convention here in the US. San Diego Comic Con has officially been cancelled due to the ongoing epidemic. Readers will recall that the event organizers had previously sought to delay the event, but monitoring of health advisories and recent statements by California governor Gavin Newsom have made it clear that holding the event in 2020 would be dangerous.
“Extraordinary times require extraordinary measures and while we are saddened to take this action, we know it is the right decision,” said a spokesperson. “We eagerly look forward to the time when we can all meet again and share in the community we all love and enjoy.”
Those who have either purchased badges or vendor space for the 2020 event will be receiving informational emails soon about how to either get a refund or transfer their purchases to the 2021 event, which is currently scheduled for July 22 through 25. Additionally, those who booked hotels through the onPeak service will see their rooms cancelled and any deposits made refunded without further action.
