If you have played an MMO with bullets in it, odds are good you have dodged at least one just because of how these video games work. That’s not literally what I’m asking about today. No, today I’m talking about the times when you stop playing a game and then immediately learn about something that would have made you stop playing if you hadn’t already. Or games where you pick something new and fall head-over-heels for it right before you learn something you could have stuck with got way worse. Stuff like that.
We all occasionally get caught by these things, of course: the expansion that destroys your previous gameplay style, the guild where you decide to stick around right up until it implodes from drama, and so forth. But every so often there’s a feeling of just barely avoiding something, and it’s oddly satisfying. So do you ever feel like you dodged a bullet in MMOs? Or do you mostly remember the times when you should have gotten out just before things got bad?
