Wallpaper Engine was co-opted for gaming smut
In what is perhaps the best and the worst use of illicit Steam installations, Chinese users apparently turned Wallpaper Engine on the platform into a porn distro tool in an attempt to circumvent adult content bans in the country. In fact, so many players were using Wallpaper Engine in this… let’s call it creative way that it drove the app to the top 10 most-played “games” on Steam.
So how did this become a story we could feasibly publish on MassivelyOP? Chris summed it up: “Incidentally, some of the most popular wallpapers of this kind feature characters from Final Fantasy, Overwatch, and Genshin Impact. So technically speaking, this is now an MMO news story. You’re welcome.”
