I’ve left and come back to particular MMORPGs over the past two decades more times than I can count. And if there’s anything that I’ve learned from all of those reentries, it’s that if I want to remain in a game for a length of time, I’ve got to stack the odds for my return.
Sometimes that’s as easy as letting some decent time go past so that any old feelings of burnout are washed away. But it’s also in picking a good time to come back, usually around a major development, patch, or expansion. On top of that, I find it helps to whip up a new “project” for the game — a new character or goal to work toward.
When you come back to an MMO, how do you increase your odds that you’ll actually stick around for a decent amount of time?
