A moment of silence is rippling across Wizard101’s Spiral as one of the most famous voices in the game recently passed away at the age of 80: Nigel Lambert, who voiced the game’s famous wizard Merle Ambrose, has died.

“We auditioned dozens of actors for the role of Merle Ambrose,” said former Wizard101 head J Todd Coleman, “but knew we found the one the moment we heard his voice. Thank you for helping us breathe life into the Spiral.”

The tight-knit Wizard101 community mourned the loss of Lambert, with one fan saying, “Rest in peace, Headmaster. Thank you for being the voice of my childhood and making it magical for many years to come.”

“Thank you so much for sharing your voice with us,” another wrote, “and making such an impact on people’s lives with this game. You truly are an icon to many, our childhoods became magical when we met Merle Ambrose. You will be missed.”

Lambert, of course, was well-known as an actor beyond the MMORPG genre, acting on British TV and narrating dozens of audiobooks.
