Fntastic pulls the plug on Escape Factory crowdfunding, shifts instead to another prop hunt game

If we’re all very honest, the crowdfunding drive for The Day Before developer Fntastic’s obstacle course platformer Escape Factory was very likely never going to cross the finish line. But that’s fine because the studio has elected to axe the project itself and focus on an entirely new game instead.

The decision to shift gears, according to Fntastic, is due to a poll conducted among fans that suggested an overwhelming majority of them were more interested in a new prop hunt game. About a week later, the studio announced it would “temporarily suspend work on Escape Factory and postpone it until a more appropriate time.” This was followed by the end of the all-or-nothing Kickstarter drive, which meant that no money was collected.

Fntastic is undeterred, however, moving over to work on an “action-horror prop hunt game” called Items, which has its own Discord and website right now and has only just started to share some character art.

At this point we feel it’s important to provide some context: Fntastic has made this game before – it was called Propnight – to say nothing of the rug pull that was The Day Before. There was also a suggestion in Fntastic’s own FAQ that if funding Escape Factory didn’t work out, the studio “won’t be able to return,” though that could be just as much a result of bad auto-translation as anything else. Regardless, it’s our duty to keep signposting what this studio is up to all things considered.
