Borderlands Online preps for another closed beta test

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it’s time for your daily installment of Things You’re Never Going To Have! Probably not, anyway. Borderlands Online has opened registration for the second wave of closed beta testing, although the game’s developers have not yet specified when this second test will be taking place. A new PvP mode will be introduced that functions as a capture-the-flag scenario with the series’ recurring mascot robot Claptrap, but no new PvE features appear to be in the pipe.

Borderlands Online is currently in development by Shanda Games for the Chinese market, with no announcement of a port or localization or anything for an American release despite being based off of an American IP. Life is strange like that. You can check out a video of the PvE gameplay just past the break and let yourself decide if you’re missing much.

The game looks like Quake Arena…slowed down…with a Borderlands style overlay.

Honestly this isn’t coming here because its not up to the same quality standard as BL2. They dont want to accidentally sully Gearbox’s name even though they didn’t make this game. Look what happened with Aliens Colonial Marines or even Borderlands the pre-sequel which they farmed out  to 2K Austraila. This is better off not coming to North America because of the dmg it would do to the franchise.

Muspel BalsBigBrother Maps might be new, but Bals is right. This is like a stripped down version of the game. And I think BL’s best part is the story.
Also yeah, it looks very choppy, probably they’re not using Unreal engine.

If they are making a BL game that is not available in the West – then we do not want it.

BalsBigBrother From glancing at the footage, it appears to be new. The areas aren’t in any of the other games (as far as I’m aware, I didn’t play all of the BL2 bounty packs, though), and the action skills don’t look familiar.
I mean, it wouldn’t surprise me if some of the stuff is heavily based off the games we have stateside, but there’s apparently more to it than that.

Doesn’t mean it’ll be any good, though. The gunplay looks incredibly janky in that video.

Um Massively perhaps I am missing something here but why would they need to localise this for the American market when you essentially already have it?
My understanding was that this whole thing was the Chinese localisation of the existing Borderland franchice with concessions and adjustments  being made to allow that franchise to work in that territory.
