PSA: Get your free Discovery uniforms in Star Trek Online

Did you get a chance to watch the debut of Star Trek: Discovery over the weekend? It is pretty exciting to see the first new Star Trek TV show since 2001 make it to the airwaves (or, more accurately, the streaming subscription waves).

Naturally, Star Trek Online players are no doubt wondering how and when Cryptic will be integrating Discovery’s looks and stories into the space MMO. And the answer to that, at least for right now, is that all players can dress up their characters with the new uniforms from the show — for free.

From now through October 6th, PC players who log into the game can grab a free Star Trek: Discovery uniform package from the C-store. Console players, don’t fret: This promotion should be coming your way soon enough.

Have not seen the episode.
Uniforms look kind of meh, but if they are free and it has been SO long since I played STO maybe ill download nab the uniforms and see whats changed in the game.

I still wish I could just skip all the crappy ground combat, the animations alone make me want to poke out my eyeballs.

i kind of like discovery so far and especially like the ship interior bridge design because its far more like what a ship would look like in the future. previous star treks are just to basic for a ship hundreds of years in the future but i suppose they had to deal with the tech at the time.

I’m sure the budget for TOS was laughably small by today’s standards. They couldn’t afford much more than plywood panels with blinking Christmas tree lights on them.
But it was still awesome.

New series: disappointing. Discovery uniforms in STO: No thanks. I want nothing to do with that JJ-Verse-inspired, bastardized version of Star Trek behind a paywall.

Star Trek is all about JJ verse now. The new show is awful. But its made for the new JJ verse Trek fans so forget about Trek lore and idea’s for the future of the human race. Its all about kill this or that with plenty of lens flare.

Didn’t STO forget about anything in-line with established Star Trek norms years ago?

I’d rather have Orville uniforms.

Coming soon to the Lobi store.

Heh, that tweet you made was funny. But yes, you are correct. Play Fed or suffer. (and even the Fed side doesn’t really feel like the Federation should… but at least there’s a reasonable amount of content)

Ahh… I see the Star Trek Online devs still haven’t altered their complete disregard for the KDF. I feel better knowing that everything in the world hasn’t changed.

Well, I’d like the Romulans to have more than one ship interior design, myself. But I don’t think I’m going to.

All the klingon stuff from this series seem so off. I’ll keep watching but I think Orville makes a much better Star Trek than Discovery.

I agree, to quote my wife, “They totally whiffed on the Klingons, but the rest is ok.” That pretty much summed it up for me too. We consider this JJ Trek, which I guess is the way the franchise is going. But I’m not going to pay extra for basically the same effects as ohh …Valerian, Jupiter Rising, any of the last three JJ Trek movies, *insert random sci-fi movie of the last 7 years*. There is plenty of sci-fi pew pew out there that I’ve already paid for. The Orville, while a parody, feels like it captures some (not nearly all) of the Trek feel, and I absolutely hated the first episode but am liking it by episode 3.

I can watch the Orville now and Discovery later if it ever comes from behind the extra paywall. If it doesn’t no biggie, I’m sure there will be plenty of JJ Trek and Star Wars remakes…errr….new Star Wars stuff to watch instead.

Onto the subject, I don’t mind the uniforms in STO. It’s not like there aren’t already so many variations I have to google what the hell they are from! Plus I think they look better in the game than on the show.

I quite enjoyed dark and edgy Star Trek or at least enough that I am willing to give the series a chance rather than dismiss it out of hand.

Glad to see STO getting in on the action with some free stuff. Though as mentioned below the lockbox exclusive content will surely follow in the not too distant future, that is just how this game rolls.

Wish I had to time to fit some STO in as I always tend to enjoy myself when I play it but yeah too much already with more already committed to so not going to happen.

Free stuff is nice but I really don’t want a darker and edgier Star Trek.

I think the show had to become darker and edgier the TNG era shows painted themselves into a politically correct “prime directive” corner it just became stale by the end of Voyager . I did have hopes for Enterprise but ultimately it went the same way . That style of Trek is dated now I think it works on the Orville because it is a comedy homage .

I have probably seen most Trek episodes but I don’t feel as invested in it as trekkies do and maybe that is why I like the change and new direction it is going . The universe feels like a dangerous place in this new show where as TNG era shows seemed too comfortable .

Thankfully the vision of Star Trek has moved forward even though it is a prequel show . Hopefully we will get the post TNG era show most people want to see (including me) in a few years time and hopefully that will also offer a darker and edgier Trek too .

I still haven’t seen it but I surely don’t want no more Wesley or Neelix in my Star trek. The actors were fine but the roles were not.

I want the episode where the Tribbles celebrate Life Day with Chewbacca. And maybe Cousin It.

Ok, I’d log back in for that.

I wondered if they would have a special promotion on .

Discovery has turned out better than I thought it would . I’m glad the new series seems to have a much darker tone than TNG era shows . I was so fed up with the Utopian vision of the future where the aliens acted more like humans than humans did .

I completely forgot this new show was launching. Don’t want a new subscription to see it, though… already ditched Netflix because it has completely abandoned showing A-class Hollywood movies. Xfinity’s online streaming/on demand services put most of them to shame anyway.

Just put it out there that you can get a free week of the app, then if you cancel right away they either give you a free month or 2 months for the price of 1.

I’m sure the Shenzhou and the Discovery will be in a lock box soon enough.
