Italy and 35 Italian aircraft are live today in War Thunder’s Regia Aeronautica update

Update 1.69 Regia Aeronautica is live in Gaijin’s military MMO War Thunder today. The patch introduces Italy as its sixth nation with what it’s deemed a “formidable line-up of 35 of the most historically accurate representations of their famous Air Force in any computer game ever.”

“The new Italian aircraft tree stretches from Italy’s famous biplanes of the 1930’s to its powerful jet fighters of the 1960s. Among the latter is the Fiat G.91, a light, fast and agile fighter-bomber that is highly versatile in combat, thanks to its rapid-firing, heavy Browning machine guns, bombs and 38 rockets. Italian bombers include highlights such as the heavy four-engined Piaggio P.108B, which can carry a staggering 3.5 tons of bombs or three torpedoes. Its sister model, the ship hunter P.108A, comes equipped with a massive 102mm anti-ship cannon with 50 rounds of ammunition, which is now the largest aviation weapon in the game by far. All players will get gradual access to the new nation’s aircraft, with new models being unlocked for research every few days.”

There are new vehicles for the US, Russia, and Germany too, as well as PS4 Pro support, new smoke shells and smokescreen launchers, and updated Kuban, Tunisia, and Black Sea Port maps. Check out the videos below for the details!

One Shots: Head of the class

What do you do if you’re a sentient stone head who has been tasked with centuries of guard duty? You probably do a lot of lounging around on a cushy chair, waiting for some Dudley Do Right to wander your way and agree to do your job for you.

Miol sends in this odd Guild Wars 2 shot from the Living Story Season 3 in response to my call for goofy screenshots: “How about a literal talking head? Silly enough?” Well, it’s noggin I like, but noggin I hate, either.

Yeah, I’ll just show myself out. Sorry about that.

War Thunder’s Assault patch adds new vehicles and maps, with Assault mode on the way

War Thunder has pushed out another big update today, this one dubbed simply, “Assault!” — exclamation point required! “The update introduces almost twenty new vehicles including Japanese tanks and three new battle locations bringing the total number of maps to more than 80 available in the game,” says Gaijin.

What it does not have? The Assault mode that presumably gave it its name.

“Available in two iterations, the new game mode challenges players to defend a strategic location against waves of enemy ground vehicles or aircraft. For tankers, combat is fought tank to tank on the ground, with the ability to temporarily support teammates in attack aircraft or bombers. Pilots are tasked with maintaining air superiority over a zone by fending off enemy bombers approaching from all directions. As each successive wave is stronger than the previous one, players have to work together to hold out until the end, upon which they will receive well-deserved rewards.”

That mode is on the way “soon after the update 1.67 launch.” In the meantime, check out the trailer!

Betawatch: Albion Online announces its launch date (February 24, 2017)

After extending its beta well into 2017, Albion Online has announced its date for officially leaving that hallowed state: July 17th, 2017. Just a few months away! So if you were worried that “well into 2017” meant the fall, you can rest easy. The game has also looked at adjusting some of its open PvP zones, so that’s also a good thing.

Other news? Aw, of course, anything for you:

You can also find our full list just below, replete with all sorts of games which are in testing. Did something jump test phases without us noticing? That’s awful; let us know about it so we can fix it. Or just scroll down the list and look for what you’d be interested in playing, we’ll accept either.

Betawatch: Revelation Online does the beta warp again (December 23, 2016)

It was bound to happen. No, really, it was; we were told that Revelation Online would head into its second round of closed testing, and behold, it did exactly that. It also has some additional localization, which means that it might reveal more details about it sstory to those who play over the holidays.

Beyond that, there is a surprising amount of beta news as we head into a holiday weekend when everyone is off on a cloud of eggnog and sweaters. What sort of news? Look below, dear readers!

That’s a lot of stuff, but there’s even more stuff down in the list below, games still in closed or open testing. See something on there which should not be? Let us know in the comments! (Just give us a few days. We’ve got eggnog and sweaters to deal with.)

Four-year-old War Thunder launches out of open beta

I know what you’re thinking — didn’t War Thunder launch, like, four years ago? I know we just sang happy birthday back in October. Welcome to the after-effects of the age of soft launches, my friends. Gaijin announced today that War Thunder is finally moving out of open beta.

“[U]pdate 1.65 ‘Way of the Samurai’ marks the release of the originally proposed War Thunder game and ends Open Beta with all current in-game nations featuring their own aircraft and tank trees. The introduction of ships also means that War Thunder now takes the fight to land, air and sea to complement the game. Gaijin Entertainment will continue its commitment to improving the game through regular updates, as they progress toward the research trees of War Thunder Ships, which currently reside in pre-beta testing.”

As you might guess from the title, the Way of the Samurai patch today focuses on the Japanese faction. The studio is promising navies for all nations next year in addition to the already-announced World War mode. And get your Christmas stockings ready: The holiday content rolls out today too.

Gaijin begins crowdfunding multiplayer war shooter Enlisted

War Thunder studio Gaijin announced today that it’s publishing Darkflow Software’s “fan-driven” MMO squad-based multiplayer PC shooter called Enlisted. “Gaijin Entertainment Promises to Reinvest Game Sales into the Development of Additional Content and Consoles Versions of Enlisted,” reads the press release.

Enlisted will initially offer two massive campaigns – Battle of Moscow and the Battle of Normandy. Each campaign in the game will represent multiple phases of a battle – which during the war lasted for weeks, sometimes months, as well as specific characters and weapons suitable for the historical event recreated in a campaign. It will also offer different game modes where players will be fighting not only by themselves but also together with a platoon of soldiers in massive battles. Built using Gaijin Entertainment’s proprietary Dagor Engine, Enlisted will feature large scale battles with a 100 combatants spread over a massive and richly detailed battlefield complete with destructible landscapes.”

By “fan-driven,” the studios apparently mean “paid for,” as the official site has gone straight to crowdfunding with a big red “back the project” button that asks players to prepurchase mods and early access. The Tunisia campaign unlocks at $250,000, the next tier; players will apparently vote on the campaigns and modules unlocked beyond that. The studios promise a console release at the million-dollar mark.
