Revival devs talk character creation, whaling, and more

Revival’s latest newsletter is essential reading if you’ve missed any of the fantasy sandbox’s developer updates over the past month. Illfonic links back to missives on whaling, the mercenary life, farming, and arena combat.

Illfonic also says that the month of May included progress on the game’s character creation system, which is ” designed to give players the freedom to create a look that they genuinely identify with, while keeping their appearance in line with their heritage and their physique in tune with their stats.”

I’m keeping a close eye on development. I love sandbox MMOs that give players lots of features to play with. I came up through UO and SWG, then the market was dry for a while. ArcheAge had lots of features, but the way PvP was implemented and how there was no player-to-dev communications to a foreign developer ruined the experience. I currently have a leery eye toward playing Black Desert Online for it’s wealth of features, but worry it will turn into another AA experience.

I want to play a feature-rich sandbox with cryengine-type realism graphics handled by a local development team, where gankers aren’t rewarded for no-skill PvP. I’m hoping I’ll find that either in Revival or Star Citizen.

I know is some people’s minds Revival is going to be ‘that sex game’ but man, if practically every component of this MMORPG doesn’t sound genre leading.  Personally, I think Revival will turn out to be an incredible MMO, and like nothing else the genre has seen.
