Firefall is adding auxiliary weapon slots, equipment slots, and more

What am I today.

Firefall’s latest dev blog discusses upcoming changes to the game’s itemization and player equipment slots. Red 5’s overarching goal is to enhance the effect of player choice when selecting battleframes and equipment, with an eye toward giving players “more control over builds and favored statistics.”

The dev team is replacing battleframe cores with five new primary equipment slots: head, torso, arms, legs, and reactor. These different slots contribute to the batteframe’s total health, power, etc. The team is also adding secondary equipment slots as well as a third weapon slot! Click through the link below to learn all the details.

karmamule Damonvile The “You have one piece of gear that determines your stats and that’s it” part kinda fell flat on its face. Nobody really used it like it was intentioned at endgame, and if you did, you were nerfing yourself.

AsteriskCGY It doesn’t exactly have set bonuses, but each “Foundry”(Accord, Omnidyne, Kisuton, etc.) has a bonus to your traits, such as reload speed, ammo capacity, etc. You’ll pretty much be able to min-max traits you want, unlike the previous systems. Also, there’s Legendary and Prototype gear that has unique effects, similar to Destiny’s Exotics.

Feydakin It’s the neverending beta… and it is glorious(ly schizo)

Kwasimoto They scrapped the limited amount of gear concept because it didn’t allow a lot of customization. Most people took bonus health cores instead of creating a unique build.

GameGirlGames That is key, they really nailed the gameplay. It’s a FUN shooter… I have fun playing the core mechanics, and now they have been putting proper MMORPG meta in to play with.

Damonvile karmamule Yup, smooth away all those awkward differences that make people actually have to think and adapt!

They went through some odd choices in the past, but also had some interesting (albeit more intricate than normal) ideas as well.  Sad to see them finally just give up and conform to increasingly typical designs.

I remember this, 2 years ago there were talks about expanding the
customization by being able to replace parts of your armour….they
scraped that by using the progressions changes from tier 1 to tier 4 in
new “Classes”, so for those who play the mammoth class for example they
are playing the tier 4 dreadnought in customization so to speak, they
then changed it all by keeping it like this and just beefed up and added
some new tidbits to the armour as it leveled up, almost like a
compensation for the lackluster customization.

I read the devblog and it seems they are just bringing back the old ideas of equipment as you mentioned http://www.livefyre.com/profile/13162488/
Nothing new under the hood as some mentioned, maybe at year 2020 they will have some better ideas…..maybe…

Greaterdivinity At least they finally got it out the door. Too bad they had to concede so much of the original vision.
