The Daily Grind: How do you handle being wrong about speculation with an MMO?

Iconic or no, I just don't care.

A new expansion is a time for fan communities to come together and speculate about what’s coming next. What will be the next batch of classes? Will we get new races? Where will we be going? There’s always stuff to speculate about, and players invariably do speculate. And some of that speculation, inevitably, proves to be enormously wrong. The next Final Fantasy XIV jobs are not Orator and Blue Mage, the next World of Warcraft expansion does not send us to Undermine, the next Guild Wars 2 expansion is not bringing in the option to play as Tengu and Quaggan.

So how do you react to that?

It sounds like a very simple question, but I’ve seen lots of different reactions. Some people shrug and accept it with good graces, while some people throw tantrums and declare that the developers are fools. I’ve even seen players quit games over it. And it has little to do with how likely the speculation is; people have speculated about things that will never happen (like female Galka for Final Fantasy XI) and then gotten enormously upset when their unlikely speculation proved totally wrong. So what about you? How do you handle being wrong about speculation with an MMO?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
