PWE is sunsetting both Battle of the Immortals and War of the Immortals next week

Add two more to the sunset list: Perfect World announced last month that it will sunset the international versions of six-year-old War of the Immortals and Battle of the Immortals next week.

“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the shutdown of all War of the Immortals (WOI) server on January 9th, 2018. On that day, your WOI character will no longer be accessible. All WOI payments from September 1st, 2017 through December 14th, 2017 @ 11 AM PT will be converted into Arc credit and allocated to your account. These credits can be used in any of the other PWE games. Arc Points between this same time period will also be refunded to your account. Your Arc credit and Arc points will be distributed before the end of next week. Thank you for your loyalty to War of the Immortals over the last six years.”

The Battle of the Immortals site has a similar message in regard to the closure and compensation. Neither gives an explanation for the cease in game operation.

I’m sad I play this game sense year 2012. I play this game for 3 years then I quit because I play Archeage. This game have boss hunting timer, battle royal, structure pvp, capture boss pet, cave pvp zone traderun and more. This game is more fun than albion online. Most of my game before is team park then I switch to sandbox MMO because I’m bored killing mobs. I love archeage because I do traderun and it is real gathering and farming because you can plant anywhere. I don’t like instance housing zone MMO.

Holy smokes didnt know these two were even still around! Played both back in the day…kinda sad to see them go but im guessing the playerbases for both are pretty slim

Not if they take STO and Champions Online with them :(

Meh, I’d be with you for 50% of that. I don’t play either but I put a lot more time into STO. (not near enough to justify the lifetime sub I bought before launch though)

What makes PWE think they can kill these games off? It says they’re immortal right there in the titles.

So which generic and forgettable Korean MMOs were those ones?

First time to read anything about them, anything unique or different in these games?

I remember playing…one of those, can’t remember because videos of the games make them look identical (like a lot of the Asian imports from megapublishers). Vague recollections of it being amusing, but never really “fun”.

Sucks for anyone who was left playing who still enjoyed, but I can’t say I’m sad to see the industry continuing to shake off chaff like this as it continues to mature.

You are super late on this but I forgive you because these games were utter filth!

The mmorpg player base is not actually that large. I am not including mobas and arena shooters which keep getting clumped into this genre.

There are too many Korean clones on the market. Some need to go.

these games are if anything more like arpg mmo’s and predate the resurgence of arpg’s/rise of mmorpg’s in teh west.

Article says games are 6 years old. Mmorpgs really peaked in 2007-2009 before mobas took over and started to be wrongly intertwined with this genre.

And back then there were too many Korean clones.

and these are more or less mmoarpg’s. ie like poe or diablo or marvel heroes.

they aren’t clones by any means.

i’m all for calling a clone a clone in the mmo genre but these aren’t that.

edit: also quite certain i played BOI in 2010, and WOI is older of the two.

speaking of lockboxes i knew a guy who spent tens of thousands of dollars going into debt and maxxing out several credit cards and asking friends fo rtheirs to get a singular sparkly unicorn mount in battle of immortals years ago.

i think that was my cue to stop going into that vent server.

Most I ever spent was $2000 over 3-4 months. Was he Russian? Russians were the most insane cashers back when I played Browser Games. I was in a guild where some guy was spending 25 dollars….A DAY!
