The Daily Grind: What MMO are you thankful for today?

Bye Felicia.

A lot of the time, we use this space to ask serious and thought-provoking questions, but today is a holiday in the US, and thus we’re just asking the obvious question. What MMO are you thankful for today? What game just makes you happier because it exists?

It’s not really a surprise to hear from me; I’m hyped up for the next Final Fantasy XIV expansion, over the moon about the speculation and promise therein, and excited to see how the whole experiment with Blue Mage plays out. (And irritated by the people who are whining over it not being Black Mage But It Uses Aqua Breath, but that’s not the game’s fault.) It’s fun and it just finished giving me lots of things to be excited about for the future. How could I not be thankful?

But there’s been plenty for people to be thankful for over the past year, everything from Lord of the Rings Online’s new progression server to the planned release of World of Warcraft Classic to the new open-world update in Warframe and all sorts of other elements. So what MMO are you thankful for today?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

Well given I am in the UK thanksgiving is pretty much another day for me but I know at Christmas when family have eaten too much and are also sleeping off the booze I tend to retreat to an mmo in the late afternoon , its usually lotro these days .

The only mmo i play now is the E&B emulator so i’m thankful for the devs making it happen after the game was shutdown by EA.

Well, I was unable to log in yesterday, but here are the MMOs I’m thankful for this holiday season.

-FFXIV I will be active again in time for the Blue Mage. Heh. But beyond that, it is a blueprint on how MMOs can be saved and maintained.

-Fallout 76. Oh yes, it is MMO lite, and it has been roasted (ironically) since launch. But I’m having fun. Just survived my first nuke strike event, heh. I wasn’t on the team that launched but as it became an event, I jumped and did my part. WOW! Hell on earth, and so much fun. Next time, my vid will be ready. Here is a sample from someone else.

-Blade and Soul. Been playing this game for the better part of two years. Still love the combat, the art style, and the dungeons and raiding are top notch. Hopefully, it will continue, but NCWest has some work to do.

-Warframe. Just downloaded for the Switch! What else can I say? It’s a great game on the PC and now the Switch.

-Path of Exile: Always great for some quick ARPG gameplay.

-Pillars of Eternity: Good old fashioned single player RPG.

-Divinity Original Sin 2: Good old fashioned but with multiplayer.

-Wildstar: “Farewell and ado to ye fair Spanish lady.”

Star Citizen for fulfilling my hopes and expectations. Lost Ark for being a real AAA high quality MMO among ocean of low budget low effort crap

Ffxiv could not stand without ffxi. 1.0 to 2.0 ffxi saved the ip. And they used many assets.

Truth be told ffxiv will most likely not last as long as ffxi.

While blu was nice for ffxiv. It again takes old ideas and imports them. It does nog inovate or push the mmo envelope.

Camelot Unchained being in development and ramping up the cool shit to do in it.

Star citizen wildly improving performance and focusing on the fearures they’ve got instead of more creep.

Torchlight Frontiers. Being in the beta I had a lot of fun and see a really great experience coming down the line. While it’s not story rich like most of the MMORPGs I’m into, it was just a blast to play overall. I’m thankful it’s being made and can’t wait for it to arrive (though I definitely want them to take as long as they need to work on it!).

Hope they brought the lobster cracking utensils, as that “turkey” looks to be very hard on the teeth currently. o.O

PS: Well done, Mr. Schlag! /bows

FFXIV for saving me from the suffering of playing WoW.

Happy ‘gobble gobble’ day, Schlag 🥧 <–PIE! :)
