GTAV multiplayer RP servers allow gamers to roleplay drivers, mechanics, and journalists

You might think that the Grand Theft Auto universe online is populated chiefly by people pretending to be gangster thugs and extreme sports thrill seekers. And you might be right. But there’s apparently an entire corner of the GTA online fandom that is happily roleplaying out their lives on custom-hosted servers running a roleplay mod called GTA RP in combination with multiplayer mods GTA FiveM and Grand Theft Multiplayer. Instead of making you play the same iteration of the low-life criminal you’re playing in the regular franchise, the mods allow you to play whatever you like. Don’t just be a crime lord; be the crime lord’s Uber driver!

A whole slew of these servers has cropped up since the release of the mod, but the one gaining traction right now is NoPixel, thanks to streamers popularizing it with their antics. (Protip: Ironic roleplaying is still roleplaying!) The clips Dexerto rounded up are NSFW – seriously, NSFW! – but they show some of the hilarity being broadcast for a new generation of watchers. We love the attack scene with a player camera guy recording the whole thing in-character.

So, who wants to see MJ stream her life as an Uber driver on one of these servers?

Just so people don’t get the wrong impression, the main server is still a whitelisted server with over 4000 applications. The big push again now is due to OneSync giving some server 64 slots. NoPixel, TFRP, and TwitchRP are all doing OneSync testing. The wait time to even log in is sometimes 5 hours or more due to queues.

Feel free to apply to come RP!

Heh. I’m joining in the fun. I’m becoming a paramedic who is a Trump supporter. I will be that annoying jerk that talks out of his ass on any topic while administering first aid.

Unfortunately, my video card died this week, so I will begin after I fix it. Yup. going to replace the fan and heatsink myself. It’s a 1080 and there is no way I’m buying a new one. Damn bitcoiners are killing us still!

Only streamer I watch is MrMoon. He’s been doing gta rp for a long time. But his crazy antics have gotten him 3 day bans on FamilyRp. So it’s no surprise these streamers are on Nopixel, where the rules are lighter.

Can’t find work in the real world? GTA’s got ya covered!

Lol! I was wondering when MOP would get to this. The beauty of it is that it is simple. And it is true RP. But instead of being, let’s say a Jedi, you can go for the ironic and much more fun, working the register at the Burger Hut, right next to a bank the gets robbed as regularly as people eat burgers. Lol!

The gang of retirees living the thug life called The Prunes is what I aspire too. Heh!

I’ve been wanting this for a long time. Everytime GTA5 goes on sale, I just pass it by because I didn’t think there were RP servers that I could have fun on.

There’s a nice mix of serious and lighthearted roleplay from what I’ve seen over the years.

Just another example of how giving such tools to players can really breathe extra life into a game.

Yea, and hopefully more MMO developers will learn from this – giving players ability to create their own content (whether it is PvP, PvE or RP) is the BEST way to keep people playing your game even if you do not release expansions for it.

It’s been on Twitch for years now, gaining popularity around two years ago and then dying off before getting popular this past week or two as big names like Sodapoppin, Summit1g, and others are hopping into it.

There have been a lot of fun characters to watch, but probably some of my favorite have easily been Bill Ding done by MiltonPike1 ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frZHq8-tFSg ) and Richard Oakes by Classypax ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0e673IV32rE ). Shame that Classy doesn’t do much of it anymore, though Milton’s been regularly doing Kiki Chanel on NoPixel interacting with the bigger streamers who have been getting into it (i.e. Soda).

Soda jumped on the wagon after he saw Summit doing it. Lirik used to RP it a while ago but he quit. Its been a blast so far to watch. Im a Summit fan, but this game has me wathing Kebum (mr chang), some of the cops. The only one I have found that I cant really get into is Pokimane. Her character is shallow and reminds me of Nadia in American Pie. No substance. This coupled with the fact that she is trying to cut corners and get right in with the established groups like Chang/Charles/Vinnie’s crew has rubbed me the wrong way.

The only thing that has bothered me about it all is how “weird” the conversations get. Taco, Rami, and quite a few others seem to just start talking about stuff 10 year olds would when they run out of RP. Eating dingle berries, jacking off a chicken.. lol. It just gets very very cringe fast.

It becomes easy to weed out those who are actually trying to learn and get good at it vs those who are just hopping onto it for views and following a trend. Pokimane definitely comes off as one of those folks who just chases trends since moving away from LoL.

the last time this was trendy on twitch i watched kaceytron play a bit and it was pretty funny.

debated doing these things or alternatively altis life in arma3 but haven’t quite gotten the gumption together in the community to get it going.

apparently this new mod makes it alot easier for normal people to join or something as opposed to the previous RP servers stuff which was invite only (and overly exclusive)

Summit makes games no one is talking about suddenly relevant again. Some of these guys (2 I can think of) really are entertaining.

Yea, Summit started another wave of GTA RP, but it was popular way before that, especially when Lirik used to play it when Summit was playing something else ;-)

Anyway, it’s funny seeing all the streamers jumping on this bandwagon, especially the ones who are very bad at RP.

eh gta regularly hits the front page of many subreddits every week without fail.

i mean it’s alot of people who haven’t touched the game in 4 years complaining that they never added more heists and some conspiracy theories about singleplayer dlc and rockstar hates single player gamers or something strange but the definitely still talk about it.

i mean it it’s still a top 5-ten seller both physically and on steam/digital stores every single month as well so keeping that in mind.

game is massively popular really. up there with some of the most popular free to play games except with a $60 price tag most of the time.

eh my point is that gta is already massively popular without popular streamers jumping on the latest rp server bandwagon.

the new rp server mod thing is big becuase it’s not as heavily barricaded as the previous rp server mods, and less because some twitch streamers are jumping on an already established bandwagon because they apparently didn’t get paid to promote div2 by ubi ;) :D

anyways rockstar’s paid streamers are mainly on facebook and youtube for w/e reason. i sitll get teh odd notification from when they were giving out gta bucks during their promoted streams if you logged in for a half hour during the stream. they seem surprisingly popular on there too, bt that perception is coloured by the fact that alot of the people were “watching” for teh gtabucks handouts :D
