Ragnarok Online’s international servers are going dark for two months to receive a mass of updates

When you update your MMO, you have one of two methods: the drip-feed, which sees you slowly release smaller updates, or the force-feed, which unleashes large updates between long gaps of silence. Ragnarok Online will soon be doing something of a force-feed, announcing the arrival of several updates in one big “mega-update” that will require the international servers to go down for two months.

Specifics on what this update will include are sparse right now, but the forum post promises “about a dozen” system and quality-of-life updates like login rewards, an anti-cheat system, and pet evolution among other features. Due to the volume of updates, the international servers Chaos and Thor will be down between Friday, December 6th, and Monday, February 3rd.

Before then, the cash shops will be shut off on Thursday, October 31st, and registration for a “new game service” will be announced on Tuesday, November 12th. Beta testing of the new game service will begin in early December along with server stress tests, and then Ragnarok Online will re-open its Chaos and Thor server doors on February 3rd.

I didn’t know this was still active. This was my first MMO (aside from MUDs/MOOs).

Two months is a long time for people to wait to get back to their game. Good luck for all involved, but this might be a death knell as much as a rebirth.

I’m very excited for this.

Ragnarok was always a case of the pservers being way better than the retail servers. And that’s still the case.

Well, Lost Ark Russia is going into open beta this month on the 27th.
Something to keep me busy.

Oh Ro…how this hurts to read. I can’t imagine 2 months if dowtine is going to be healthy for whatever player base still exists. “Hey everyone please go find another game to play for now but please come back in 2 months”

They arent fully international since quite a while ago

Remember they decided to ban EU players instead upgrade their website services for GDPR

EURO was closed. I think they’re international again now.

I can retry in a few days but the problem wasnt the existence of EU version which run pararrel(with a steam version too) for many years. It was just that out of the blue they took the unusual(I dont think any other longtime service done it) to ban EU players, some of which invested lots of money over the years, instead of upgrading their website to be GDRP compliant. I also believe a new EU based service opened in 4game who also has the EU version of Lineage II

Edit: Yes its there there

I know that. Not like any company that ran RO were trustworthy.

Yes but was also run by a small and weird company mostly. My main problem with it why I never got time-invested into it is that it feels you start with lots class options but you get forced into some ultimate in the end. A more restrictive Lineage 2-like class system
