The Daily Grind: Has an MMO ever frightened you?

If any game has ever aimed for frightening the living daylights out of players with more focus than The Secret World, I don’t know of it. TSW was always intended to be a horror-themed experience from start to finish. But as much as I loved the game as a whole, it never really managed to get that sort of good scare going for me, the sort of horror that creeps in around the corners of your thinking, leaving you just shuddering days later when you flash back to it.

Has an MMO managed that? Yes, but I’m keeping that one a secret.

And hey, maybe I’m unique. Maybe you found TSW terrifying in that exact sort of creeping dread fashion; that’s totally valid, it definitely had the right atmosphere, structure, and construction to manage it. Maybe another game did it. Maybe several games have done it for you. Has an MMO ever frightened you? Even if it was just a jump scare, has it even made you jerk back and react with fear?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
