So let’s be honest: The positive things we say about our favorite MMOs to those curious are not usually the same as what actually keeps us playing. I don’t mean that in a negative way, really, but it’s just a statement of fact. The real reason I keep going back to World of Warcraft has a lot more to do with the fact that I have years of emotional connection built up with the game across nearly two decades of history than any individual feature I might happen to list to someone who has never played the game.
That’s not a problem, on the whole, but it does mean that there’s a list of things we keep in our mind as Reasons To Play This MMO and Reasons I Do So. Today, we’re not interested in the former; we’re interested in the latter. What about your favorite MMO keeps you coming back? Do you find your character really gorgeous? Do you have friends in the game? Do you just have a hopeless crush on an NPC? Seriously, no reason is too silly.
