We’re not generally one for bringing Super Mario Bros. games into our wider coverage because these games, while wholesome fun, are primarily single-player titles. That’s not precisely the case for the newly released Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which has a whole host of interesting co-op features for players to enjoy locally and a wider assortment of online multiplayer features.

Players can select several different characters from the series, including Yoshi characters that other players can hop on to and ride, while additional co-op features include the ability to share power-ups with others and a way for players to rescue friends who have taken too much damage.

As for online play, up to 12 others can play the game together in a co-op room, while levels allow a maximum of four players at once. While playing online either solo or with a friend, players will also see live shadows of other players in real-time and be able to interact with them like reviving, sending greetings, or sharing items for what’s called a “subtle connection” to others. Players can additionally put down a standee that lets others revive themselves even if they’re not on a stage with one another.

Naturally, Wonder has the expected goodies of any new Mario game, including new power-ups and a new Wonder Flower item that dramatically transforms stages in weird and trippy ways. The game is available now on Nintendo Switch; those who are more interested in the multiplayer aspects can watch the video below, which should be set to a point when local and online play is showcased. Also make sure to look forward to our own in-depth impressions piece from Massively on the Go later this week.
