The Daily Grind: How much do you care about performance rankings in your MMO of choice?

He likes Legos.

I have an odd sort of relationship with performance when it comes to my MMO choices, whether it be class or skills or whatever. Those choices are always dictated by the character I’m playing, rather than being dictated by efficiency; once I’ve made those choices, though, I want to be doing the best job I possibly can within that framework. You can tell me that Bombs, Lightning Magic, and Whips don’t synergize very well, but if that’s what my character should be using then I am going to carve out the best possible niche for Shockwhipperella, Queen of Bombs.

Now, some people do not care about anything beyond DPS rankings or the like, character consistency be damned. And some people do not care about rankings at all, simply liking the ability where the character does the little twirly motion and so that’s what we’re doing the whole dungeon, efficiency be damned. Where do you fall on that spectrum? How much do you care about performance rankings in your MMO of choice?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
