The Daily Grind: What brings you back to MMORPGs you stepped away from?

Sure, all right.

I don’t tend to go back to games that I left all that often, but that’s less a function of being unwilling and more just having stuck with the same games pretty consistently for a very long time now. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible, though. In fact it’s pretty simple in an abstract sense to draw me back to a game I’ve left; you just need to offer me something that I couldn’t have before but want. Sometimes that means an option I wanted when I left that wasn’t available; sometimes that means something I didn’t know I wanted but is suddenly offered to me.

What’s interesting is that it’s not really about content. If I leave a game, even if it’s because I’ve done all the content that matters to me, I’m not going back just because new content is available. But maybe that’s just me, so I’m curious to hear from our readers. What brings you back to MMORPGs you stepped away from? Do you devour content until you’ve reached a stopping point, then step away until there’s more? Do you wait for new options or major updates specifically? Or do you just drift in and out?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
