The Daily Grind: Which MMO is worth playing because of its lore?

A few weeks ago in a Massively Overthinking, Tyler landed one hell of a double-dunk on SWTOR and EVE Online almost in passing, suggesting that spending significant time in SWTOR’s group content was “like playing EVE Online for the lore.” OK, I laughed out loud, but yes, EVE Online actually does have lore, and I know that Tyler knows this. But EVE is known for so many other things that it would be weird to specifically play it for the lore and not all those other things.

So for today’s Daily Grind, I want to talk about MMOs that you do (or could theoretically understand someone who wanted to) play for the lore. Which MMO is worth playing because of its lore? Which MMOs do the best job of actually infusing the game with lore and trickling it out to the player?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
