Anarchy Online gets a nod from Funcom on the occasion of its 23rd birthday

While last year saw an in-game celebration for Anarchy Online’s 22nd birthday, so far there hasn’t been much more than a brief acknowledgement from the studio that the long-lived scifi MMO just reached its 23rd anniversary. Then again, this time last year the studio also axed Anarchy’s great player volunteer program, so perhaps it’s best for the game if Funcom not pay attention to it these days.

“On this day 23 years ago, the first ever science fiction MMORPG, Anarchy Online was released,” Funcom said. “Citizens of Rubi-Ka, we thank you for being one of the most passionate communities out there.”

In response to a question about a possible sequel, Funcom said, “I’m afraid we have no updates regarding a AO2.” For our part, we’ll celebrate this year’s anniversary by recommending that you revisit our two-part series on the creation and life of Anarchy Online.
