NetEase’s survival shooter Once Human continues to make a significant and surprising splash in the multiplayer gaming world, as this weekend has seen player headcount continue to climb, hitting a new all-time peak of over 173K this past Friday and a slow rise in positive user review sentiment to about 63% following Starry Studio’s response to security complaints.
However, the companies may have started a new process of aiming a shotgun at the game’s foot, as its previously announced seasons model, which will run every six weeks and reset character progress every time a new season begins, has ignited lots of heated discussion on its Discord as well as an hour-long discussion from another game developer to NetEase over the matter.
On the subject of that discussion, the game’s official Twitter account acknowledged the seasonal model furor, saying that it “[understands players’] concerns about the mandatory seasonal resets and how they can affect your sense of progression and attachment to your character” but not actually explaining what steps would be taken to address the matter. The statement further confirmed that purchased cosmetics will be available to all characters and not just one character; players can expect this adjustment sometime in August.
Meanwhile, the shooter has been getting myriad updates and patches to address things like incorrect recipe ingredients, game performance, server stability, and tasks.
Thank you so much for taking the time to discuss with us and provide such detailed feedback about Once Human's gameplay. We understand Metas' concerns about the mandatory seasonal resets and how they can affect your sense of progression and attachment to your character.
