Here’s a blast from the past that is sure to catch genre fans by surprise. Does anyone here remember Tanoth? It was a web browser MMORPG that first launched in 2008 by Gameforge; it took place in the mystical world of Aris and ran for nearly two decades until it was shuttered in 2020 because of the sunsetting of Adobe Flash. But now, fans of this elder statesman of web MMOs can return to the game thanks to Gameforge’s resurrection efforts.

Not only was Tanoth rebuilt in HTML5 in order to stay current with modern tech, but it also features other adjustments in the form of visual style improvements, rebalanced mechanics and new functions, and the “Arcane Circle 2.0” system that trades in the game’s temporary buffs for permanent upgrades.

A final release date for Tanoth’s return isn’t tied down yet, but players are invited to join a Discord to keep up with news or they can hop into the game’s beta format now and get back to playing if they’d rather not wait.
