Ragnarok Online’s international servers are going dark for two months to receive a mass of updates

When you update your MMO, you have one of two methods: the drip-feed, which sees you slowly release smaller updates, or the force-feed, which unleashes large updates between long gaps of silence. Ragnarok Online will soon be doing something of a force-feed, announcing the arrival of several updates in one big “mega-update” that will require the international servers to go down for two months.

Specifics on what this update will include are sparse right now, but the forum post promises “about a dozen” system and quality-of-life updates like login rewards, an anti-cheat system, and pet evolution among other features. Due to the volume of updates, the international servers Chaos and Thor will be down between Friday, December 6th, and Monday, February 3rd.

Before then, the cash shops will be shut off on Thursday, October 31st, and registration for a “new game service” will be announced on Tuesday, November 12th. Beta testing of the new game service will begin in early December along with server stress tests, and then Ragnarok Online will re-open its Chaos and Thor server doors on February 3rd.
