The Daily Grind: Are there MMOs you tend to play mostly for events?

Back in the first season of Guild Wars 2’s living world content, the update cadence meant that there were a lot of little bits of content that amounted to being holiday events. That bothered a lot of players who were hoping for somewhat more substantial updates, but I always think of that when I think of some of my own gameplay habits. Because there are MMOs I find that I’m easily attracted to playing… for a little while, while they’re running special limited-time events, and then I log back off for months.

Obviously I don’t consider this ideal, but it got me thinking that maybe I’m not necessarily alone in this for some games. There may be other people who play games primarily when an event is running and the rest of the time they’re just not inclined to log in. So are there MMOs you tend to play mostly for events? Or are you able to resist the siren’s call of events that might otherwise entice you for games you barely play?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
