When we covered Palia earlier this month, I noticed multiple commenters, Twitter denizens, and even our own staff talking approvingly of the community Discord. Like the game itself, it’s already attracting the most lovely people. It’s already a place I enjoy hanging out. You get the community you build for, right?
It’s a sharp contrast to the Discord for a different game I attempted to try out the week before that. That Discord was so bad that it was half the reason I uninstalled it. Life is too short to willingly put up with chat filled with sexism, racism, and homophobia.
True, I’ve been in lots of Discords that were very pleasant, but the game was a dud. And we’ve all seen super high-quality games where the developers have very obviously given up on trying to control the playerbase. But still, I can’t help but use the Discord as a quick temperature check. How about you? Do you judge MMOs by their Discords?
